Back to Elephants on the Beach Gallery

at the edge of the surf

At The Edge of the Surf          "2:05pm. This new place is much better. I've been sketching here for almost two hours. The black turnstones have come back again, and the herring gulls and ring-billed gulls, too, doing what shorebirds do -- skittering up and down with the waves. They don't pay any attention to the elephant seals, and the seals ignore them, too. the seals are very sluggish. I can move and make little noises, and they don't seem to notice.

I'm hidden behind a dune, all but my head, looking through a willow bush."
