Join us on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of October and November, 2007~ Art Ramble in Lithia Park with Irene Brady and Cathy Egelston ~ FREE! We'll meet at the Ashland Parks Office above the Upper Duckpond at 9:45am, and depart from there to one of many choice sketching spots in the park. This is not a class, but an ongoing group of pleine aire sketchers at all levels of proficiency. Bring your sketchpad, medium of choice, comfortable clothing and your own seating arrangement (foam pad, folding chair, etc.) and join us as we commune with nature for a couple of hours. While Cathy and Irene will not be teaching, they'll be available to answer questions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 7-10, 2008 ~
Vacations will take on a whole new dimension once you have learned to journal and share your adventures through your own unique observations, reflections, and sketches in this workshop.
In this workshop you will tap into your artistic potential with in-depth stimulating sessions on right-brain drawing, guided exercises in creative writing, pleine aire sketching/journaling walks, and an introduction to additional techniques to brighten and intensify your journal pages -- plus plenty of free time to journal and sketch on your own.
Add color to your drawings (according to your own personal desires and style) using easily carried watercolor pencils. Bring your own watercolors or acrylics if you already have experience with these media and want to try them out -- however, the instruction will refer to watercolor pencils.
Return from this intensive but relaxing adventure workshop with the strong beginnings of an illustrated journal. You'll be able continue to journal your life using techniques, tips, guidelines, and creative prompts found in the workbook you'll receive as part of the workshop.
Students bring: a bound, Empty Book or other journaling book with unlined pages, or an unlined journal in progress to use in class.
Learn more about El Remanso Wildlife Lodge here. To register for the class and make the necessary reservations at El Remanso Wildlife Lodge, write to info@elremanso.com.
A complete outline for this class as it will be presented in Costa Rica may be viewed here. Note: this outline is not chiseled in stone and could change slightly before February ~ but it's probably pretty close to accurate.
Read the complete description of a previous Costa Rica Workshop (on nature drawing, but not journaling) here, and read Irene's day to day blog of that workshop, complete with workshop, jungle and beach photos and sketches (including a drowsy sloth and a boa eating an agouti!) here (go to the bottom of the first archived blogs for May 2007).
Journaling can be fun and light-hearted, personal and deep, or a way to share your world with others (and yourself, when you revisit its pages in the future).
Tap into your artistic potential with stimulating sessions on right-brain drawing, guided exercises in creative writing, and an introduction to additional techniques to brighten and intensify your journal pages. (This is not a scrapbooking class.)
In the final session we will show and tell what we've journaled and sketched during the week and add color to our sketches with watercolor pencils (fun and easy!).
Emerge from the workshop with the strong beginnings of an illustrated journal, and continue on your own using techniques, tips, guidelines, and creative prompts from the workbook you'll receive as part of the workshop.
Students bring: a bound, Empty Book or other journaling book with unlined pages, or an unlined journal in progress to use in class. Also, bring a sack lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
[this class is similar to the one being offered in Costa Rica, February 2008]
~To register for the class, go to Ashland Parks and Recreation. Click on "View Activities" in the left panel. On the page that comes up, type in the keywords "journaling" and look for "Nature and Garden Journaling ~ with Sketches and Words". (class opens late summer)
